DHARMAPURI kshetra mahatmyam a look on the details of Dharmapuri, contains many details about this place. It is said that the great sage gautama stayed here and did a lot of penance in its eastern region. He installed a shivalinga also there. And today it is called as Gautameshwaralayam. Lord Dattatreya himself constructed an ashrama here for the benefit of wandering monks. Dattatreys temple facing the east on the banks of Godavari, gives a beautiful picture of sunrise. The serene atmosphere helped many Vedic scholars stick to that place and spread Vedic dharma.

People of Dharmapuri are found of holy bath in the pure waters of Godavari. People in their eighties also immerse their bodies in its waters. The place reverberates with sound of Vedic mantra recitations. Nityapuja is done so systematically even in smallest temples and goddess with rich annadana to the needy. The stone benches are the platforms for the Vedic scholars to hold assemblies on the spiritual topics. Dharmapuri is known for many great pauranikas who give excellent pravachams. Other Temples in Dharmapuri

Brahma Temple
Unlike in the temples of other Gods and Goddesses, you can rarely see an idol of Lord Brahma in the temples dedicated to Him.

One such rare temple is in Dharmapuri where you can see the idol of Lord Bramha. As the Indian Mythology and the Epic s say, Lord Brahma is not prayed nor does He have a temple anywhere though He is considered as the Lord of nature. This is a result of a curse by Sage Brighu. In order to cleanse Him from this curse Lord Brahma invoked Lord Vishnu and got the boon to cleanse His curse and that he will have a temple and will be prayed in his form but that will be only in this place.

Satyavati Temple
This temple is on the south of the Nutana Narasimha Swami temple. Though the main idol here is of Lord Narasimha, the temple is called as Satyavathi temple. Couple s have a darshan of this temple in order to have a peaceful and happy married life. The main attraction of this temple is the Isuka Stambam or the Sand Pillar.

Brahma kundam
When Lord Brahma and King Dharma Varma prayed for the darshan of Lord Vishnu in the form of Narasimha swami, Lord Ugra Narasimha took sacrifice in a pond and by his meditation lost his anger and became Shanta Narasimha. Thus this place is called as Brahma Kundam. Local people believe that by having a holy dip in this pond people will loose all their sins. So this pond is also called as "Sakala papa vinasini .

Satyavati kundam
Satyavathi the wife of Dharmangada carried her husband who was transformed into the form of a serpent form over her head and travelled around the world meditating and praying to gods to cleanse her husband of the sins. When she visited this place and had a holy dip in this Holy pond her husband Dharmagada was transformed in to a human being. Hence this pond has been called as Satyavathi Gundam.

Rama Ligeswara swami temple

Ramalingeswara Temple literally means Shiva Linga which was installed and worshipped by Lord Rama. This temple is very close to the Narasimha Swami temple. Unlike the other Shiva lingas made of stone, this is made of sand stone and is very coarse in nature

Sri Nutana Narasimha Swami Temple
This temple is a pretty new one compared to the main temple of the Yoga Narasimha Swami temple. But this temple is also attracts lot of devotees and the devotees pray to the god ardently. The god here is in a sitting posture along with Goddess Maha Lakshmi by his side and teaching his disciple Prahalad

Sri Gautameshwara Temple
Sri Gautameshwara Temple is one of the ancient temples in Andhra Pradesh State.

A place with immense importance, Gautameshwara Temple s location is popular because Gowtham Muni (Sage Gowthama) brought the river Godavari to this part of the region and took it down all the way to Antarvedi and from there on to Bay of Bengal. This Sage seems to have stayed here for some time. For his prayers of he installed the Shiva Linga here. Hence this temple is called as Gautameshwara Temple
